Hello everyone, I hope everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather as of late.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone about a great award that someone you know may deserve. The Rensselaer Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its annual Community Service Award. The award was established to recognize a student that is involved in philanthropic and service activities in the local community. The chosen student shall have proven his or her impact and depth of involvement in community activities. If you know anyone who you feel is deserving of this award, please nominate the person by completing the necessary form which can be found at the Heffner Alumni House or the Union Administrative Office. The deadline for nominations is December 11, so please act quickly.
Once again, this weekend, there are many Union activities going on around campus. If you’re looking to take in a movie, UPAC Cinema will be showing movies both Friday and Saturday night. For more details and information check their website at http://cinema.union.rpi.edu/. Also, this Friday, UPAC Mother’s is proud to present Tim Harrison performing live at Mother’s on the first floor of the Union at 8 pm. As always, the show is free to students with an RPI or Sage ID. For more information about UPAC Mother’s and their schedule, you can find them at http://mothers. union.rpi.edu. Also, one other reminder that John Mayer tickets for the November 25 show are still on sale, so go get yours before they’re all gone!
This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the Saturday night RPI Players performance of The Tempest and must say they did an all around excellent job. The crowd, as well as I, thoroughly enjoyed their rendition of the William Shakespeare play. The next time the Players have a performance I suggest everyone attends to see these great performers! I would also like to thank everyone who attended and helped with the planning of RUFest this past Friday. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and took advantage of the prizes and fun all day.
The Executive Board met this past Wednesday for its weekly business meeting. The Cycling Club brought forth a proposal to reallocate the necessary funds to help assist in the cost of an instructor. The E-Board voted to approve the reallocation and was pleased to hear the club found the funding in their current budget rather than requesting additional funds. Also discussed during the meeting were the results from the E-Board student feedback week. Students were asked basic questions that focused on their feelings about the Union and improvements they would like to see. Based on the information gathered, half of the initiatives students requested will be executed immediately, and the other half will require some more research. I would like to thank everyone who was willing to give some of their time and their opinions to help us improve the Union.
As always everyone is welcome to attend Executive Board meetings, which are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the Patroon Room of the Union. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments at pu@rpi.edu and x8598 or stop by the office in the Union Room 3136.
