Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing well as the semester has passed the halfway mark.
The Executive Board continues to be busy as the semester progresses. Starting next week the E-Board will begin its student feedback initiative. Throughout the course of the week, E-Board representatives will be seeking student opinions on various topics relating to the Union. From this feedback the E-Board hopes to address concerns and improve the Union based on your needs. The Union and its services exist for the use of students and it is our objective to constantly review student opinion in order to adapt to changing needs or concerns. So when you see E-Board representatives circulating around the Union please take two minutes and give them your opinion on what you feel we are doing right, doing wrong, and what you would like to see changed or added to the Union. We want to know how you feel about the Union so we can constantly improve it for you.
This week there are a lot of activities for everyone to come and check out. On Friday, October 25, the Classical Concert Series will be sponsoring “Walden Chambers Players” at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in downtown Troy at 8 pm. Tickets for the concert are free to students and available in the Union Administration Office this week. For those of you who have never been to Troy Savings Bank Music Hall the music hall is a beautiful masterpiece built in the late 19th century with some of the best acoustics in the world. It is an experience that I suggest everyone have at least once, especially when the tickets are free!
You can also come cheer for our athletic teams this weekend, as there are a slew of games. On Friday, the men’s soccer team at 4 pm and the field hockey team at 7 pm both have a games on the turf, men’s soccer versus Hamilton and field hockey versus Union. The Men’s Hockey team also has a home game this Friday against Iona at 7 pm. On Saturday, the football team takes on Hartwick at 1 pm on the ‘86 Field. For a complete listing of all our team’s schedules, check out the athletic department web page at http://www.rpi.edu/dept/athletics/. There are plenty of games this weekend so go out and show your support for our athletes.
This past week, the Executive Board had a few business items on the agenda regarding WRPI and the Paintball Club. The Paintball Club received funding for their starter budget this year. The starter budget included four club trips to various locations and the purchasing of equipment. This is the first year the Paintball Club has received a budget and they will be looking to expand upon their starter budget next year as they increase membership. The WRPI proposal was also passed for the authorization to purchase necessary equipment using reserve accounts. If anyone is interested in radio broadcasting, WRPI is a great opportunity to gather experience and you can even have your own radio show! For more information about WRPI you can check out their web page at http://www.wrpi.org/ and tune into 91.5 FM.
As always everyone is welcome to attend Executive Board meetings, which are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the Patroon Room of the Union. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments at pu@rpi.edu and x8598, or stop by the office in the Union room 3136.
