The month of recruitment is almost over with the end of formal rush last Sunday. However, the month is still not over. For those of you who received bids and are still hesitating on whether to sign them, I hope that you will read on. For those of you who have signed your bids and are now considered part of the greek community, congratulations!
Already many of you have seen all the basic information of how many influential people are greek. Most of our presidents, government members, and CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies are greek. You may ask why. I feel that being involved in greek life pushes one to excel in leadership and installs admirable qualities. Leadership in the fraternity is called upon by asking that members take part in all aspects of running the daily business as well as taking responsibility so the fraternity continues well into the future. It is these qualities that many greeks gain by being an active member of their respective chapter. Aside from these side benefits from greek life, I feel that joining a chapter that you feel close to creates a bond that will be there for life—a bond of brotherhood.
Along with the benefits of being a member of the greek community, there is the benefit of being with people that you enjoy hanging out with and having fun. In the IFC’s greek calendar, the month of October is social month. We kick that off by having Greek Week.
Greek Week: Beginning on September 30, and ending on Friday, October 4, is a week of fun events for the entire greek community. Sporting events are on all week, as well as a host of other activities. Please try to take part and support greek life.
Monday: Volleyball with root beer floats by the gazebo.
Tueday: Pool in the Union, and basketball in the Armory.
Wednesday: Softball, gym hockey, ultimate frisbee, soccer, kickball, and football.
Look in The Poly on October 2 for a complete schedule and times of activities.
