To the Editor:
Well ladies and gentlemen, that nip is in the air, the leaves have just about all fallen, and November is here. We all know what that means—the women’s basketball season is getting underway. It has been hard for our five fans to control their excitement. Trust me, my mom calls every week to get an updated schedule. I’ll talk in numbers here so that all of you engineers reading this will be able to understand. No need to break out the TI-89s; I’ll keep it simple. Take the 30 fans we get at every game, subtract the 24 parents, the three regulars, and the trainer, and you get two random fans from the student body who walked through the armory by mistake and felt guilty leaving. Generally they are hoping the game will end soon so they can play pick-up, or aren’t paying close enough attention and don’t realize that we are the women’s team and not the men’s team.
Now, you ask, "Why should I take time out of my life to attend a basketball game? What have these girls done for me? Are they there when I’m taking my Strengths test chanting: "Go for partial credit! Plug and chug, plug and chug!" Well, unlike for a class, our success will not sabotage the grading scale, and if that is not convincing enough, here are some more reasons that coming to our games will be a positive and fulfilling experience for you:
—First of all, it will be the highest concentration of females that you will ever see at RPI (Note: our opponents are also female);
—The 10 returning players from last year’s team went 23-5 and made it to the NCAA tournament;
—It’s free;
—We usually win;
—Loud and obnoxious behavior is encouraged;
—You can sit next to my mom (always fun);
—Finally, two words: Holly Neiweem.
Our home opener is Tuesday, November 20 at 7 pm against Southern Vermont. See you there.
