In this week’s column I would like to start by recognizing the students that serve as your UC representatives. They are Steven Matthews ’02, Sean Travis ’02, Laura Crescenzo ’03, Sarah Peloquin ’03, Elena Paulus ’04, Kimberly Van Dyke ’04, Kiel Weston ’05, and Bryan Wezwick ’05.
A little over a week ago the UC revised and approved its bylaws, something I consider quite an accomplishment since they have not been touched since 1991! Now we are in the process of going over the constitutions of the classes of 2004 and 2005. Once those have been revised and approved, the UC will begin formalizing and approving the four-year plan for class councils. This plan will act as a reference tool and give future class councils an idea of the goals they must achieve during their year.
Over the next few weeks, the E-Board and I will be hammering out the final details of the UC budget. Hopefully, with the new funds, we will be able to start creating the new online RPI Handbook, or, as I would like to call it, the Survival Guide to RPI. I envision a website that will give students access to information and tips about almost any non-academic issues. I’m hoping students can look at it as a virtual Union, but, one that goes beyond RPI. It will contain information on restaurants (ratings, reviews, etc.), entertainment, sports, student services, and other topics that you would want to see on the website. Since this website is for you, I encourage you to let us know what you would like to see and know more about on the website. As part of the planning process for the Guide the UC will be compiling a list of issues and topics that we feel the website should address. Your input and feedback is a valuable part of this process, so please let us know! You can e-mail me at uc@rpi.edu or contact your council members with your ideas!
