This week stamps a first for the freshmen class as they will elect their student government leaders this Friday. For the first time since 1994, it was necessary to hold a primary election for the presidential race. Kudos to the Class of 2005 for demonstrating great enthusiasm for your co-curricular activities. In addition to your search for a class president, class representatives, and senators, please know that the Executive Board is also actively seeking representatives from your class. If you are interested in student government, student activities, and the Rensselaer community, the E-Board may be the place for you. We are the primary budgeting body of the Union and allocate an $8.5 million budget towards the funding of clubs, organizations, and Union operations. If you are interested, please e-mail me at pu@rpi.edu, or fill out an application in the Union Administration Office by Friday, September 28.

The Executive Board gathered this Sunday afternoon to continue our orientation/training. It was a very successful meeting. We made great progress in continuing to define our goals for the year, in addition to having a great time. We had the opportunity to work with the Archer Center towards defining a mission for the E-Board.

As the group responsible for allocating funds and enabling student activities, we would like the Rensselaer community to know that we are very open to new ideas and suggestions. We are very approachable and encourage you to attend our weekly business meetings. They are held every Wednesday night in the Union Patroon Room at 7:30 pm. We would also like the Union clubs and organizations to know that we are committed to being great club representatives this year. We intend to measure our progress and improvement and I welcome your feedback as club officers and members.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that RPI’s Community Service Day is Saturday, September 29, 2001 from 10 am to 3 pm. Planned events include:
