On behalf of the Rensselaer Panhellenic Association I would like to welcome the women of the class of 2005 to the beginning of Sorority Recruitment. You may have already asked yourself why you would possibly want to go through recruitment. Well, sorority recruitment is a great chance for women on this campus to network with upperclass women, make new friends, and also have lots of fun!

Sororities are so much more than one could ever imagine without taking part. They offer each of us a chance to grow as an individual, expand leadership skills, participate in community service, develop close friendships, improve social skills, and aid in scholastic development.

Out of everything a sorority can offer a person, I consider the immersion in diversity the most important. You can find sisters from every house involved in a large range of activities like varsity sports, theater, and student government. Beyond diversity in activities, sororities offer diversity in ethnic background, culture, and religion. By becoming involved in greek life I have learned much about the different types of people involved within each chapter, and I truly believe that it is diversity underlined by similar ideals that makes each chapter strong.

I hope all women will take the time to check out sorority recruitment during the coming weeks. Recruitment begins September 6 with our ice cream social in Mother’s from 7:30 –10:30 pm. The Panhellenic recruitment system uses Rho Chis to act as rush counselors during the recruitment process. Each Rho Chi is a member of a sorority at Rensselaer, but has disaffiliated herself. This means she has given up the identity of her chapter in order to represent the entire greek system and offer unbiased advice and counseling to potential members. Please feel free to ask any Rho Chi questions about sororities, greek life, or what ever else you would like to discuss. The Rho Chi’s will answer your questions in a confidential and honest manner. Please also feel free to e-mail any questions to

rhochi-l@lists.rpi.edu.

Best of luck with classes in the fall, and I hope you will take the time to explore Panhellenic recruitment.
