To the Editor:
As everyone knows, March 5 and 6 brought another late winter "nor’easter" to Troy dumping 18 to 20 inches of snow. As most of you also know and appreciate, President Jackson closed the Institute both days to ensure our safety. What you may not know is that a dedicated group of employees from Auxiliary Support Services did not get Monday and Tuesday off … in fact, these folks, under the supervision of Joe Flanigan and Scott Litwin, worked throughout the storm shoveling and snowblowing sidewalks, clearing access roads, and plowing parking lots to make sure that when Rensselaer reopened on Wednesday everyone could navigate safely. I think they did an absolutely terrific job.
When I returned to work at the Health Center on Wednesday morning, I was greeted by Sue Polanski, our environmental specialist, who—in addition to her usual building responsibilities—had spent part of Monday and much of Tuesday shoveling heavy deep snow to clear our sidewalks and ensure that students and staff would have safe access to our building. Considering that this was a "Top 20" March storm, the sidewalks and parking lots were in great shape Wednesday morning, and we at the Health Center truly appreciate Sue’s efforts.
When you see one of these hardworking folks, take a few seconds to acknowledge and thank them for the great job they did to ensure your safety and to let them know how much you appreciate their efforts.
