PSS: gettin’ jazzy with it

ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28, THE RENSSELAER MUSIC ASSOCIATION HELD its first concert of 2014 in the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center Concert Hall. The production, titled Pops Concert: My Favorite Things, featured the Symphonic Band, the Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, the Contemporary Jazz Ensemble, and the Repertory Jazz Orchestra. The program was comprised of various favorites of the musicians, with pieces ranging from classical hits like Holst’s “Second Suite in F”, to jazz staples such as Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night in Tunisia.” The end of the performance brought a rendition of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “My Favorite Things”, in memory of Maria Franziska von Trapp, who passed away on February 18. The RMA will host their annual spring concert in the EMPAC Concert Hall on May 3, 2014, at 6 pm.
