This week, the Interfraternity Council would like to highlight the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Sigma Chi has 48 members and resides on 58 Pinewoods Ave. One of the Pawling fraternities, Sigma Chi’s values include friendship, justice, and learning. The Delta Psi chapter at Rensselaer is one of 239 undergraduate Sigma Chi chapters nationwide, making Sigma Chi one of the largest national fraternities.
Locally, Sigma Chi puts on several philanthropic events. Its “Haunted House” has been attended by the Pawling community for over fifty years. In addition, the chapter holds a weeklong philanthropic events called “Derby Days.” Derby Days pits sororities against each other and challenges them to raise the most money over the course of a week.
The chapter also have brothers who participate in clubs and organizations broadly spanning the student body, from the Flying Club to WRPI to the Interfraternity Council. To accommodate the expansion of the chapter, Sigma Chi has raised millions of dollars and commenced a renovation of its chapter house at 58 Pinewoods Avenue. Due to this and other factors, Sigma Chi has won several awards recently, including the President’s Cup and the Peterson Significant Chapter Award, an award which its national fraternity uses to recognize the top 10 percent of Sigma Chi chapters.
