To the Editor:
Colleges Against Cancer is a group affiliated with American Cancer Society, whose goals are to promote cancer education, survivorship, advocacy, and volunteerism. RPI’s CAC has participated in several events this semester and would like you to join the future events. CAC participated in the Capital Region’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. This is an exciting day full of events and a 5K walk. At the end of the day, $1,050,000 in funds were donated to the American Cancer Society to help combat breast cancer. In addition, CAC participated in the Community Service Committee’s Halloween Parade here on campus for the Troy community, supplying caramel apples and s’mores.
Coming up in December, Colleges Against Cancer will be visiting the cancer ward at the Children’s Hospital in Albany to make holiday ornaments and paint sun catchers with the children. Some exciting events will be taking place in the spring, including Paint the Campus Purple, Relay for Life, and more Children’s Hospital visits. Paint the Campus Purple is a cancer awareness and education day, promoting healthy living and spreading cancer awareness. We will be chalking up the sidewalks with cancer facts and statistics.
And, of course, Relay for Life is an extremely exciting time of the year, with an entire night full of events supporting a great cause and welcoming cancer survivors in the local community to RPI. Relay for Life will take place on April 23. Don’t forget to sign up your teams now. Team captains that sign up during the Relay Blitz (November 30–December 4) will receive a prize!
