Men's Baseball
This year’s annual spring Florida trip was highly successful for the baseball team; this year they went nearly undefeated, finishing the spring break in Tampa with a 7-1 record. The Red Hawks are 23rd on the NCBWA Division III poll this week.
The only loss on their record is against then-15th-ranked Augustana College, whom the Red Hawks took revenge on the next day with a 15-5 statement. Sophomore Camden Mamigonian leads the team offensively with a .485 batting average. Nearly half of his hits have been for extra bases including five doubles, a triple, and a home run. He has two stolen bases, 14 RBI and a slugging percentage of .788. Senior pitcher Tim Klein is 2-0 on the season with a 3.75 earned run average. He has nine strikeouts and only four walks in 12 innings of work. The freshmen are led by shortstop Dan Stroud who is batting .375 and also has a home run in 16 opportunities. He has scored seven runs, batted in six, stolen two bases, and has a .625 slugging percentage.
The team takes the field this weekend for their home opener on Robison Field, two sets of double headers with Clarkson University on Saturday and Sunday.
Women's lacrosse
The Women’s Lacrosse team has amassed a 3-1 record during their stay in Florida. They won their first three games of the season before falling to Ithaca College in West Palm Beach on Friday.
After two victories in the northeast to start the season, the Red Hawks headed south to play Curry College and Ithaca in the sun. RPI first defeated Curry in an exciting 15-12 game. It was truly a team effort for the Red Hawks as nine different players had goals in the Wednesday afternoon contest. It was a tight game as the teams traded goals through the beginning of the game while RPI pulled ahead 7-5 at the half.
The Red Hawks quickly scored two goals after the break and soon had five unanswered goals with a 14-11 lead with under seven minutes to play. Sophomore Ariana Hood had a good showing as netminders stopping 12 shots in her third win of the season.
Two days later, the team lost 18-8 against the Ithaca Bombers in a morning game as RPI fell to 3-1 on the season, while the Bombers improved to 1-1.
The team travels to Oneonta State on Wednesday for a 3 pm game.
Softball
The Women’s softball team closed out its spring trip to Fort Myers with a dominant 9-0 win over the Curry Colonials. RPI finished the trip 7-1 after they won six straight but lost the streak when they were frozen by the Bowdoin Polar Bears 8-7. The women boast a 7-3 record this season.
Three athletes were chosen by the Liberty League for their weekly awards. Junior Sara Finkbeiner, sophomore Michelle Bianchetti, and freshman Genevieve Falco were named Offensive Performer, Pitcher, and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
The Red Hawks return to the field on March 29 for a double header at Ithaca, followed by a pair of games against Castleton State the following day. Both sets start at 1 pm.
