The Engineers have regained their winning ways as they trounced the Cardinals from SUNY Plattsburg last Sunday. The women’s tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with its 8-1 victory. The team won all three doubles matches in addition to five of the singles matches.

After this weekend’s performance, the Liberty League named junior Kristen Weiss (pictured) Performer of the Week in tennis.

Seeded first in the doubles, senior Erica Sherman and partner junior Progga Das defeated their opponents Valerie Papi and Tiarra Garrow 8-5. Up next, junior Michelle Pelersi and sophomore Christine Roe edged Morgan Dupell and Katelyn Rogers 8-6. The final duo of Weiss and senior Charlotte Kaplan defeated Sumie Takamitsu and Yasako Aso with a perfect 8-0.

In the individual matches, Das was seeded first and won her sets against Garrow 6-2, 6-3. Following her was Roe with another sound win, 6-1, 6-3. Sherman was seeded third and upped Dupell with a 6-2, 6-3 combination. Next, Weiss took down Danielle Circelli 6-4, 6-0. The last victory of the day for RPI was junior Andrea Dalton’s defeat of Katie Rogers 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Jessica Sitzer was defeated in a super tie break as the match was already won by RPI.

The women will be back on the Sharp Courts to take on SUNY New Paltz this Sunday for a 1 pm match.
