At half-time, it looked like the football team had used the 56-6 routing of Becker to boost the team and send them flying into the next league game against St. Lawrence University. The score was 28-7, and the Engineers were sitting high atop their comfortable lead when the Saints wrestled back the game with a slow third-quarter rally capped by four touch-downs in the fourth.

As RPI's defense collapsed, sophomore quarterback Jimmy Robertson also threw an uncharacteristic interception, leading to the Saints scoring 21 unanswered points, bringing the final score of the game to 42-38.

The defense has been a strong point of interest for the team this season—the coaches and players have been looking for that defining moment during which the defense finally proved itself. Once again, however, they didn't get it this week.

As usual, the offense put up big numbers and continued to get the job done on their part. That element was again led by senior captain and pre-season All-American Jay Bernardo, who ran for 200 yards.

Also leading the offense was Robertson, with 253 yards of passing and a touchdown. He almost had a second as the Engineers trailed 38-42 and worked frantically to try and drive in one more for the win. When Robertson ran the ball up four yards on first and goal, a false start penalty brought the play back on the next down. In need of a clutch play, the Engineers watched as time ran off the clock and their fourth down pass sailed incomplete into the end zone.

The Saints began their comeback during the third quarter with a 42-yard drive that only took them 1:59 to complete.

Senior kicker Drew Taranto delayed the attacks with a 36-yard field goal, bringing the score to 31-14. Robertson also got in on the action after the Saints scored again. Robertson hit Brendan McGowan, a junior to put RPI up 38-21 with just over 12 minutes left in the game.

Here, the Saints first ran 63 yards to tighten the score. The SLU defense then intercepted the ball and returned it for another touchdown, but RPI was still in the lead 38-35. RPI's offense was held tight and SLU's quarterback went back out to throw one final touchdown pass and call it a day for a 42-38 Liberty League win.

The Engineers don't head off to another game until Ocotber 21, when they travel to Kings Point for a game against the Merchant Marine Academy.
