Only one of the two games on the field hockey team’s schedule took place this weekend; Friday’s game against St. Lawrence was postponed and the Red Hawks dropped a 2-1 decision to the Hamilton College Continentals on Saturday.

Friday’s game was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with the referees. The game will be rescheduled and played at St. Lawrence at a date in November which has yet to be determined. In the stead of a real game, the two teams played a scrimmage with two 20-minute halves, in which the assistant coaches officiated.

Freshman Sara Stylinski scored on a cross from classmate Kerri Clark late in the first half to put the Red Hawks up 1-0. RPI out-shot the Continentals 3-2 in the half, but Hamilton led in penalty corners, 6-5.

Battling the elements, the Continentals tied the game with under a minute left. Kristen Archibald put a shot past senior goalie Amanda Lund with 24 seconds left on the clock. Hamilton won in overtime when sophomore Natalie Scherwin took a pass up the middle from junior Kerry Leonard and netted the winner.

Lund finished with six saves, and Hamilton goalie Erin Weinstock finished with two. With the loss, RPI drops to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League. The Red Hawks sit two games behind the 2-2 Vassar Brewers for the last playoff spot in the league. With league games on-the-road against Union, Skidmore, and St. Lawrence in the upcoming weeks, RPI has a slight chance of making the playoffs if they win out and get help.

The Red Hawks’ next three games are all at home and all non-league. They play today at 4 pm against Utica College, Saturday at 1 pm against Oswego State, and Monday at 4 pm against Ursinus College.
