The RPI women’s tennis team improved its record to 4-0 in dual meets and 6-1 overall last week with victories over Russell Sage on Thursday and Stevens Tech. on Sunday. The Engineers dominated the neighbor Gators 9-0 at Russell Sage, and played rude hosts to the Ducks, clobbering them 8-1 on the Sharp Courts.

Sophomore Charlotte Kaplan and a trio of freshmen led the way for Rensselaer. Kaplan, along with Andrea Dalton, Progga Das, and Kristen Weiss went undefeated in their singles matches in both contests. The quartet lost only one set between them during the week.

Das, an Orangeburg, N.Y., native, has yet to lose a collegiate singles match. The Liberty League recognized Das as the co-Rookie of the Week for her efforts last week.

Head Coach Carol Pillsworth’s squad will now enjoy a little downtime as the Engineers won’t hit the courts again until September 27 when they’ll welcome the Hamilton Continentals to the Sharp Courts.

Golf led by freshmen

Over the weekend the RPI men’s golf team traveled to Middlebury, Vt., to take part in the Duke Nelson Invitational. The Red Hawks came in ninth in the 25-team field with a combined two-day score of 627.

Freshman Erik Thomas paced the squad with rounds of 73 and 78. Sophomore Dustin Pusatere chipped in with scores of 79 and 75, and fellow freshman Matt Neeley added rounds of 78 and 81 to the RPI effort.

Rensselaer will travel back to Vermont tomorrow to take on Castleton State in a dual match at Equinox Country Club in Manchester.
