Summin’ up

St. Louis 33, Seattle 27 (OT)—Seattle controlled most of this game between NFC West rivals. Seattle came into this week with one of the best defenses, allowing only 13 total points in three games. However, they let Marc Bulger score 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to tie the game. Bulger hit a streaking Shaun McDonald three minutes into overtime to seal the game.

Detroit 17, Atlanta 10—The unbeaten Atlanta Falcons are now beaten. Detroit’s defense caused three fumbles and an interception, helping seal their victory. Joey Harrington and the Detroit offense got the job done without rookie sensation Roy Williams most of the game. Michael Vick’s and the Falcons’ offense continued to struggle with the West Coast system implemented this year.

New York Jets 16, Buffalo 14—The Jets remain unbeaten after allowing Buffalo to comeback. Drew Bledsoe led the comeback in the fourth quarter with two touchdown passes, without starting running back Travis Henry. Chad Pennington got the Jets in position for Doug Brien to kick what would be the game winning field goal.

Lookin’ Ahead

Carolina at Philadelphia—A 2004 NFC championship rematch game. Philadelphia has looked good, and should be ready to go after its bye week. Carolina hasn’t looked sharp lately, with both Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster banged up, and Steve Smith out for the season.

Seattle at New England—New England faces a tough match trying to keep its 19 game unbeaten streak. Seattle will look to rebound from their fourth quarter collapse Sunday.

Miami at Buffalo—The matchup of losers. Buffalo looks to get its first win after losing two close games. Miami is, well, Miami.

Tampa Bay at St. Louis—This match up would have been huge a few years ago, featuring a dominant defense versus an explosive offense. These two teams aren’t what they used to be, but anything can happen on Monday night.

Fantasy Watch
Stud of the Week

Daunte Culpepper—Daunte has performed tremendously this year so far. Daunte threw for 396 yards and five touchdowns, earning top honors. His last touchdown went to Marcus Robinson for the overtime victory. The most important stat though, zero fumbles.

Dud of the Week

Deuce McAllister—Deuce wasn’t expected to come back this week, and maybe he shouldn’t have. While he ran for 102 yards, he had two fumbles, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

Under the Radar

With about one-third of the season underway, let’s take a look at some players who may have slipped under your radar, and hopefully your league members.

Quarterbacks

David Carr—David Carr had a huge game against the Vikings last week, and has put up solid numbers throughout the season. With Domanick Davis not running well, look for the Texans to air it out more, which means more points for Carr.

Joey Harrington—How fitting to see both the quarterback studs of the 2002 draft starting having success. Harrington has thrown seven touchdowns to two interceptions this year. While he hasn’t put up big yardage numbers, Harrington seems like a good backup quarterback in most leagues.

Running Backs

Duce Staley—The Duce is loose, just not in Philadelphia anymore. Most people wrote off Staley at the beginning of the year, but he and Jerome Bettis have seemed to co-exist well. Staley has had three consecutive 100 yard rushing performances and got his first touchdown of the season this week.

Emmitt Smith—This old running back still has some gas left in the tank. While it’s unlikely Smith will put up any dominating performances throughout the season, he has put up very solid numbers so far, with 353 yards and four touchdowns.

Wide Receiver and Tight End

Andre Johnson—Johnson is starting to look like the number three overall draft pick he is. With two consecutive 100 yard receiving games, look for him to continue putting up decent stats as long as Carr keeps throwing.

Antonio Gates—Gates came into the season as a big sleeper, but he has proven to be a steal at tight end, putting up better stats then all high drafted tight ends. Gates seems to be Drew Brees’ favorite target, giving him plenty of opportunities for points.
