The RPI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost in a dual meet against tough Hamilton teams, 141-96 and 147-82, respectively. The loss moves the men’s team to a 14-6 record and the women’s team to a 12-10 record.
Senior captain Meghan Hartman had another strong meet for the women. Hartman won the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:34.79 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.78.
Jen Byczek came in second in the 200 breaststroke for RPI with a time of 2:43.50. Junior Melissa Hershey won the women’s 3-meter diving event with a score of 243.60 and came in second in the 1-meter event with a score of 216.85.
The women’s relay team of Lea Marlor, Hartman, Tara Murnane, and Karel Schnebele came in second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:08.44.
Schnebele, Janina Hill, Murnane, and Sara Chadwick won the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:44.24.
On the men’s side, freshman Mike Scibelli won the 400 IM with a time of 4:18.30. Captain Pat Fell won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.90 and came in second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.67.
Rick Allen won the 50 free in 23.07. Brett Stevens came in second in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:46.95.
Fell, Scibelli, Rob Olivo, and Alvin Peh came in first in the men’s 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:31.45.
Dan Fabius, Stevens, Andrew Howerton, and Pat Spooner came in second in the race with a time of 8:12.65.
Scibelli’s performances earned him the honor of being selected Swimmer of the Week by the UCAA.
The women compete next at the NYSWCAA Championships, which are held February 18-21. The men will be at the UNYSCSA Championships February 25-28.
