The field hockey team wrapped up their regular season last Wednesday with a non-conference game at Middlebury. The Middlebury Panthers are the top ranked team in the nation and continued their season with an 8-0 win over the Red Hawks. Middlebury completed their season undefeated by defeating Connecticut College 9-0 over the weekend.

Middlebury’s Abigail Lamb and Char Glessner led the scoring with four and two goals respectively. Ashley Lyddane and Missy Krempa added a goal each to finish out the scoring for the Panthers.

RPI sophomore Amanda Lund and freshmen Jen O’Neil and Liz Szewczak split time in goal, with Lund saving six, O’Neil two, and Szewczak five. The loss moves RPI’s overall record to 6-10.

Captain Sondra Sherman led the team in scoring this season, with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Sophomore Laurie Young also performed well, tallying six goals and two assists for 14 points. O’Neil notched a shutout in her only start of the season against Rochester.

The Red Hawks 3-4 record in conference play earned them the fourth seed in the UCAA Tournament, which will be held at William Smith. The four team tournament will take place on November 8 and 9. RPI will face William Smith on Saturday, at 11 am. The winner will take on the winner of the Skidmore/St. Lawrence game on Sunday at 1 pm.
