This past Saturday the Rensselaer Engineers went head to head with the Russell Sage Gators at the Sharp Courts. Not only did the Engineers decimate the Gators in the doubles, but they swept the six single matches as well. The result: A clear and decisive win.

In doubles, first seeded Dorte Knudsen and Annie Erdekain and third seeded Saila Ghanta and Anne Marinaro won their matches 8-1, while second seeded Victoria Gardner and Raimi Iskikawa won 8-0.

The story was much the same for the singles matches. First seeded Knudsen won her first match 5-2, while the other match was retired. Second seeded Erdekian, third seeded Isikawa, and fifth seeded Danielle Kocher all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Both fourth seeded Gardner and sixth seeded Ghanta turned in 6-0, 6-1 matches to add to the RPI 7-0 win.

Tuesday’s match was a bit more mixed. The RPI Engineers swept the doubles games. First seeded Knudsen and Erdekian won 9-7, second seeded Kristen Powers and Gardner won 9-8, and Ghanta and Marinaro won 8-0. In the singles, first seeded Knudsen won 6-3, 6-0 and fourth seeded Ishikawa won 5-7, 6-2, and 6-0. Both fifth seeded Gardner and sixth seeded Kocher won their matches 6-0, 6-0. The Castleton Spartans managed to pull two matches away from the Engineers—second seeded Powers narrowly lost her games 5-7, 4-6, 6-7 and third seeded Erdekian lost 1-6, 0-6. RPI came out ahead, 5-2 overall.
