The Rensselaer women’s tennis team took third in the RPI Invitational over the weekend at Prospect Park. In the round robin tournament, the Engineers doubles teams went 7-4 on the weekend, only bettered by New Paltz and Nazareth.

RPI’s first doubles team, Kristen Powers and Dorte Knudsen, won three of four matches, and the second doubles team of Ishikawa and Erdekian also took three of four. The RPI Invitational was a good experience for the young team, finishing only a few pivotal games behind second place Nazareth. RPI won two points in the Invitational, finishing in front of Plattsburgh and Russell Sage, who were held without points.

In singles action, Knudsen won all four of her matches to take first place in second singles, and Raimi Ishikawa swept in the fourth flight. The victories in singles and doubles are a big step for a young team. The invitational provides a solid watermark for the Engineers, and the team will look for victories in upcoming matches. The team’s next three matches are at home versus Clarkson, New Paltz, and Russell Sage on September 13, September 16, and September 20.
