The Red Hawks dropped a pair of UCAA matches last week to fall to 1-3 in the conference.
Last Wednesday, Rensselaer traveled to Hamilton College to take on the Continentals. After a low-scoring first half, the Red Hawks trailed by only a single goal, but Hamilton scored five times in the third quarter to break the game open. RPI mounted a fourth-quarter comeback, tallying four goals, but Hamilton’s tough defense over the last four minutes held on to a 9-7 victory.
Accurate shooting was key to the Hamilton win: 32 of their 43 shots were on target, while RPI amassed only 14 shots on goal out of 32 total shots.
Hamilton’s Matt Silverio and Brad Schwalm each had four points to pace the Thoroughbreds, while Jeff Hobbs, Lucas Ruglis, and Ryan Frisch each had three points to lead the RPI attack.
In Saturday’s match, Clarkson took a commanding 5-0 lead in the first period and coasted to a 15-7 win to remain undefeated in UCAA play.
Jim Lavelle and Chris Stock each picked up five goals and two assists for the Golden Knights, who outshot the Red Hawks 42-20. Ruglis and Andrew Teichman each scored twice in the losing effort for RPI.
The Red Hawks have one match this week, hosting St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2 pm.
