The RPI men’s and women’s swim teams hosted the Hamilton Continentals at the Robison Pool last Saturday. The meet was the last dual meet of the season for the RPI swimmers as they prepared for the New York State Meet. The team started off the meet by honoring the graduating seniors for their dedicated efforts throughout their years here at RPI. The women’s team honored Laurie Dubios, Elizabeth Zisner, and Julia Geer, while the men’s team thanked Tim Lyons, Matt Anderson, and Peter Dugo. The team would like to take this opportunity to again thank and honor our departing seniors and wish them the best of luck.

Despite being defeated by the Continentals, RPI had a number of noteworthy performances. Allison Geer set a school record and made two NCAA National Championship Meet B-cuts. Geer set her school record and first B-cut in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.71seconds. Her second B-cut came in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.63. Meghan Hartman also set a school record and had an NCAA B-cut in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:40.45. In addition, Hartman had a first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.94.

The women’s team also fielded two first place relays against Hamilton, the 200-yard medley relay team made up of Sara Chadwick, Meghan Hartman, Julia Geer, and Allison Geer won with a time of 1:55.39. The 200-yard freestyle relay team made up of Julia Geer, Maureen Desi, Meghan Hartman, and Allison Geer took first with a time of 1:44.19. In diving, Zach Lingley took first place in the three-meter event with a score of 202.65 and second place in one-meter diving with a score of 197.85.

Both the men’s and the women’s teams are now preparing for the New York State Championships; the women’s meet will be hosted by Union February 14-17. The men’s meet will be held in Syracuse February 21-24. Both teams anticipate very strong performances at states and are looking to send several team members to the NCAA national meet in March.
