Rensselaer in Brief
Trahan appointed to new post
Lisa Trahan has been appointed to the position of assistant vice president for the Student Experience, in the Division of Student Life, effective October 1.

In her new role, Trahan will have primary responsibility for the oversight, planning, creation, and development of programs and activities that will further enhance the student experience, including undergraduate, transfer, and graduate students. She will work with Vice President for Student Life Eddie Ade Knowles to establish the Class Dean model as an extension of the First-Year Experience, collaborate with the Academic Portfolios to provide leadership and assistance with the development and implementation of the internationalizing the student experience initiative; and oversee the development of programs and services for graduate students.

Trahan will also work closely with Knowles on other senior administrative duties in the Student Life Office, as it continues to strengthen the organization and functions within the office.

Class of 2008 gift inaugurated
On Saturday, October 18 at noon, the Class of 2008’s gift to the Institute—the restored Rensselaer Union carillon—will ring the chimes of the alma mater for the first time in nearly a decade. The new carillon will bring back a long-standing tradition that will enhance the historic ambience of the campus and demonstrate the pride of the members of the Class of 2008 and other students of Rensselaer.

The reception for the class gift will be held outside on the 15th Street side of the Union at 11:30 am. President Shirley Ann Jackson will be in attendance to help dedicate the class gift. All RPI students, faculty, staff, and the public are welcome to attend and take part in the reception of a gift intended to rekindle the spirit of the alma mater on the campus. The ceremony will include the presentation of the gift, and refreshments will be served.
