The Interfraternity Council meeting on March 4 opened with a presentation from Brian Zaik ’09 discussing the reasons behind the Executive Board’s decision to produce the Union Annual Report as well as detailing its different features. After Zaik spoke, President Jesse Barr ’10 discussed the “Uprise at Five” event that had occurred on campus the previous week.

Barr also noted that in the weeks following Spring Break, he plans to talk with different administrators, and he asked anyone who had issues for discussion to e-mail him.

After Barr spoke, Executive Vice President Michael Lind ’10 said that over Spring Break he would be working on different topics that had been discussed regarding the “think tank” he had created to consider constitutional revisions. He also asked if anyone had suggestions about revisions to the five-star systems used to award the efforts of different houses. The suggestions will be taken under advisement.

After Lind addressed the assembly, Vice President of Recruitment Demetri Karanikos ’11 spoke about the Rush Interaction Committee, requesting opinions as to how to improve or what aspects should be expanded upon. He also spoke more about the plans for a “Go Greek” video. He asked that delegates inquire at their houses if people would be interested.

Following Karanikos, Vice President of Social Ryan Koehler ’11 asked delegates if there would be interest in attempting to set up another free skate. The idea was put to a vote and a majority of delegates supported the idea. Koehler then mentioned that there are plans regarding Greek Week that are in the process of being finalized, and requested designs for Greek Week T-shirts.

Vice President of Risk Management Drew Fineberg ’11 was unable to attend the meeting. In his place Barr and Lind spoke about plans for upcoming seminars; for example, he is in communication with a Troy police officer to speak about social host laws. He also spoke with the captain of RPI Ambulance about speaking to students about the symptoms of alcohol poisoning and with Public Safety about covering the Good Samaritan laws and RPI’s policy.

Vice President of Public Relations Patrick McAndrews ’ 12 mentioned Prospective Students Day and requested pictures from different fraternities, noting that the deadline for photo submissions is April 4. He also requested information from five-star reports and information about different philanthropic efforts.

Greek Senator Jonathan Babiec ’09 discussed the plans that are underway to organize a greek parade after Grand Marshal Week on March 28. President Emeritus Brian Keating ’10 provided more information, noting that historically there were always parades during Grand Marshal Week. He then asked different delegates if they thought their houses would be interested in participating. There will be more information to come. Additionally, Babiec announced that his position within the IFC will be vacated at the end of the semester and described his position.

Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Representative Richard Morris ’09 noted that three houses have failed to submit five-star reports. He also noted that his position will be opening up at the end of the semester.

Before the meeting’s conclusion, Green Greeks, a group of brothers from different houses on campus that have decided to take an initiative to make houses more sustainable, gave a short presentation about the benefits of conserving resources. They brought the idea of providing each house with the opportunity to use communal waste removal systems such as waste management.

There are different ideas about how that can best be done. The possibility of providing each house with a communal waste removal service, Waste Management Services for example, was discussed.
