This week’s Interfraternity Council meeting addressed several ongoing topics, such as plans for the upcoming Fall Rush and Grand Marshal Week. There are plans for Accepted Students Day and ideas are being considered on how to improve the 5 Star system, which is used to provide the administration with information about the activities of different houses on campus. Additionally, there was more information made available regarding the “Go Greek” video being worked on. At the end of the meeting, endorsements were decided for GM and the President of the Union.
The meeting officially opened with President Jesse Barr ’10 requesting volunteers to assist with Accepted Students Day on April 4. After Barr, Executive Vice President Michael Lind ’10 mentioned that he had talked to the Rensselaer Union’s legal consultant regarding the constitution and that he received valuable information about instituting changes. A committee has been formed to review the 5 Star application.
Following Lind, Vice President of Recruitment Demetri Karanikos ’11 provided updates about the Rush Interaction Committee and the Rush Policy Committee. Additionally, Karanikos requested that delegates mention to their houses that more help is needed with the “Go Greek” video.
Vice President of Social Ryan Koehler ’11 spoke after Karanikos and provided updates about plans. He mentioned that last week’s movie was Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Thursday would provide brothers with another opportunity to wear their letters. Also, there will be a free skate in the Houston Field House.
After Koehler, Vice President of Philanthropy Ken Hutchison ’11 mentioned the upcoming Volunteer Recognition Dinner, at which different houses will be receiving awards for recent philanthropic efforts. There are also plans to work in conjunction with Russell Sage College to host an Easter Egg Friday before Troy Night Out.
Vice President of Risk Management Drew Fineberg ’11 then brought to everyone’s attention that the second half of the CPR class attended by some brothers will be coming up shortly. Additionally, information was provided as to when different houses should expect to be prepared for their fire inspections.
Vice President of Public Relations Patrick McAndrews ’12 addressed the assembly after Fineberg. He requested different information to present during Accepted Students Day, such as photos and information regarding service hours. He also announced he will be starting to attend Troy Council Meetings to provide a greek perspective at the meetings and provide the IFC with information about the council’s plans.
GM Kara Chesal ’09 attended the meeting to provide information regarding the upcoming Community Open House event. She also mentioned a potential community service event in Prospect Park on April 25, to help improve different park features.
Finally, the IFC listened to speeches from candidates Alexander Franz ’10, William Babineau ’12, Michael Zwack ’11, and Benjamin Hunt ’10. The IFC ultimately chose to endorse Franz for PU and Zwack for GM.
