At its meeting last Wednesday, the Interfraternity Council covered several issues. President Jesse Barr ’10 again began the meeting by requesting increased greek involvement in events on campus, specifically referencing the Winter Carnival as an opportunity to get involved. Vice President of Recruitment Demetri Karanikos ’11 addressed the assembly, noting first that the Rush Interaction Committee—created to address the issue of improving plans for the next rush period in the fall—had its first meeting on Thursday.
He also mentioned that the Rush Policy Committee, which will be looking at a section of the rush policy according to the constitution for potential revision, will have its first meeting after Spring Break. Finally, he once again requested feedback on aspects of rush that people particularly enjoyed or disliked.
Since Vice President of Social Ryan Koehler ’11 was unable to attend, Executive Vice President Michael Lind ’10 gave updates in his place. He announced that plans for Greek Week are ongoing and that submissions for T-shirt designs are needed.
After Lind, Vice President of Philanthropy Ken Hutchison ’11 spoke about several upcoming events. He also noted there are volunteer recognition forms available to be printed from the Community Service website and requested that those at the meeting submit the names of men and women of an “exemplary philanthropic nature.” Finally, he reported that the Giving Circle, an organization attempting to gather a group of college students to rebuild a house in Mississippi over Spring Break, held a presentation last Thursday.
Vice President of Risk Management Drew Fineberg ’11 updated the assembled delegates on plans for a CPR training session to be held in March. From 6–9 pm on March 16, Fineberg and Public Safety Officer Dave Jordan will be training attendants in automated external defibrillator-use and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additionally, there are plans for a seminar with the Troy Police Department and Public Safety regarding how best to reduce risk concerns within houses. Finally, he made sure to remind delegates that fire inspections are coming up and there are guidelines online each house should follow.
After Fineberg, Vice President of Public Relations Patrick McAndrews ’12 again requested submissions for a Greek Week video highlighting greek life. Additionally, he asked for support for the Public Relations Committee. After McAndrews, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Representative Richard Morris ’09 reminded delegates that 5 STAR applications were due on Friday.
