On Monday, December 5, 2005, Adam Edward Kostial passed away peacefully at Albany Medical Center from natural causes. He will be missed by his family, classmates, teachers, and all of his brothers at Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity.

Adam Kostial was a senior computer science and computer and systems engineering major set to graduate in May 2006. Originally from Pittsburgh, Penn., Adam was a brother of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, where he served numerous positions, including an executive office. Whether an officer or not, he always had a sense of leadership, and was always willing to step up to a task or help out the brotherhood. Adam was a genuinely kind and caring young man—the type of person who would do anything possible to help another. Even after leaving us, Adam continues to look out for others, as his organs are being donated to help save the lives of those in need.

In these difficult times, it is important not to dwell on what we’ve lost, but to remember what we’ve had. Adam had a uniquely charming sense of humor and was a best friend to many. Just looking back and seeing the hospital hallway, filled to capacity with all his friends and family whom he touched in such a short life, makes one realize how much of an impact Adam had on everyone he met. If there is a lesson to be learned from this, with which everyone could stand to gain, it is that we should all appreciate everything we have. Do not take life for granted, as you never know when it might be gone. Live every day to the fullest, smile at every opportunity, and make a plethora of friends. It is never too late to make a difference, and we’re thankful that Adam Kostial did not hesitate to make a difference in our lives.
