This past Saturday, the women’s field hockey team crushed the Hamilton Continentals 7-2.

The first half was fairly quiet, with RPI and Hamilton each scoring one goal. The first goal was made by Jessica Pearson with 25:29 remaining for the Red Hawks. The Continentals answered with a goal at 13:02 by Courtney Snyder on an assist by Liz Southerland.

In the second half the Red Hawks came out shooting, scoring their first goal at 30:04 with an unassisted goal by Sondra Sherman. A second goal soon followed at 28:30 with another unassisted goal, this time by Katie Coleman. The Red Hawks pounded out a third and fourth goal at 26:42 by Coleman and at 25:58 by Jessica Butler on a feed by Coleman.

Joanna McCann then squeezed out an unassisted goal at 21:46 for Hamilton, but they couldn’t mount a comeback. RPI closed out the scoring with a goal at 14:59 by Patty Rodziewicz and another at 2:20 by Tatianna Russell.

On Friday the Red Hawks didn’t fare nearly as well as they went head-to-head with the St. Lawrence Saints.

The first half heard scoring from St. Lawrence at 26:00 by Jen Heffler on an assist by Liz Allison, at 9:14 by Heffler on an assist by Allison and Nicola Reid, and at 4:38 by Eric Lloyd on an assist by Heffler. RPI only had one goal for the half to answer back with by Jessica Butler off a feed by Mary Roy at 1:41.

The second half was fairly quiet, with neither scoring from either side, leaving the Red Hawks with a loss for the game.

The weekend puts RPI at 7-3 overall, and 3-1 UCAA. The Red Hawks will play again tonight at Utica. Their next home game will be on Friday against Nazareth at 4 pm.
