This Saturday, the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association held a joint banquet at the Rensselaer Society of Engineers’ fraternity house to honor the philanthropy work accomplished by fraternity and sorority houses during the newly renewed Greek Week.

Houses honored during the banquet included fraternities Pi Lambda Phi, Theta Xi, and Phi Kappa Theta and sororities Pi Beta Phi and Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Gamma Delta took the grand prize with the most philanthropic contributions.

Daniel Adam Goldman ’02, co-chair of Greek Week and IFC vice president in charge of social events, said, "I think that it’s great that we’re able to bring back this great tradition on campus. I’m really proud to be a part of philanthropy."

The money raised through the philanthropy work will help to support Bethany Hospitality Center, a homeless shelter in Troy.

Peter C. Kontogiannis ’01, a brother of RSE, said that his fraternity house’s hosting of the event is "good for the house, especially coming off the suspension. We’ve been out of the loop for so long. This is one way where all the fraternities can come together." Both Panhel and the IFC would like the reborn idea of Greek Week to continue as a common philanthropy tradition for the two organizations to rally behind.

"I think that Greek Week was definitely great this year and will be for years to come," noted Lena Alice Guleserian ’03, executive vice president of Panhel and Greek Week co-chair. "It definitely shows we have unity and can come together for the better."

The "Torch Run," "Greek God and Goddess Contest," "Pie the Parking Guy," and "Greek Olympics" were highlighted during this year’s renewal of Greek Week.

"I felt that Greek Week was a tremendous success, and I look forward to more participation from everyone next year," said John Muller ’03, executive vice president of the IFC and vice president of RSE.
