I had the privilege this week of reviewing Country View Diner here in good old Troy. Country View is well known among the student body as a cozy diner with good food and good service, and it’s only a five minute drive east from campus on Hoosick St. Despite having been to the Country View Diner many times, I still enjoy each visit there.

To me, Country View is a somewhat nicer establishment. The interior looks like a typical diner with booth seating and a 1950s feel to it. The diner is very clean and spacious and the service is always speedy and friendly. Menu choices are voluminous, offering the usual diner fare and a wide array of breakfast options until late in the afternoon. Every time I’ve been to Country View, I’ve tried something different—from omelettes to hamburgers to waffles to sandwiches—and I’ve been satisfied every single time.

My three roommates and I walked in around 1 pm or so on a Sunday and we were seated without having to wait for a table. Our drink orders were taken and coffee arrived promptly. After that, our lunch orders were taken and our food came out surprisingly fast. This is another thing I’ve noticed about Country View over the past couple of years—I’ve never had to wait more than just a few minutes for my food to come out, no matter how diverse our table’s order is.

This weekend, I finally tried one of their gyro plates with a Greek salad. The amount of food that came out on the plate was mountainous. The Greek salad alone would have been enough for a lunch, but it also came with French fries and a gyro filled to the brim with tasty meat and veggies. My roommates ordered Eggs Benedict, French toast, and a Belgian waffle; all three of them were happy with their meals.

My favorite menu item there is the Reuben sandwich. It’s filled with corned beef and sauerkraut and slathered in Thousand Island dressing and grilled. When it comes out on your plate, it is sloppy, greasy, and downright delicious. The grill fare at Country View is also very tasty, the best of which are the burgers, making the diner an ideal spot for lunch cuisine as well as breakfast.

For many an RPI student, Country View is somewhat of a morning-after tradition for weekends. Nothing can beat waking up in the afternoon after a long night and still being able to get a heaping plate of eggs, bacon, and pancakes with a milkshake on the side. If you haven’t discovered Country View Diner yet, give it a try this weekend. The menu is big enough that there’s something for everyone and the food is good enough that, like most RPI students, I’ve been going since freshman year.

Country View Diner is located at 855 Hoosick Rd and can be reached at 279-1566. To get to Country View Diner, head east on Route 7/Hoosick St. It’s on the left side of the road, past Wal-Mart, and approximately 2.6 miles after the intersection of 15th and Hoosick.
