Five Rensselaer students showcase their most recent undergraduate artwork completed in the Fall 2005 semester. The show, entitled “Indifference to Science,” will be running through Wednesday, February 22, in West Hall Gallery 111 Monday-Friday from 9 am-4:30 pm. Attendance is free.

The Pepsi Arena welcomes country music star George Strait with special guests Tracy Lawrence and Miranda Lambert at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $49.50 and $59.50, and can be purchased over the phone through 1-800-30-EVENT or at Price Chopper locations.

Friday

Genericon returns to Rensselaer for another gaming and anime-filled weekend. The event starts Friday at 5 pm and runs through Sunday, January 29 at 5 pm. The Rensselaer Science Fiction Association is hosting the event in the DCC Great Hall. Registration is $10 for students and $25 for the public. Ground Zero holds their first Open Mic Night of the year at 8 pm. As always, it is free to attend or perform, and free coffee will be provided. For further information, visit http://www.gzbasement.net/.

Saturday

The Taiwanese Students Association celebrates the Chinese New Year in Mother’s from 6-10 pm. There will be Chinese food, karaoke, and lottery drawings. This is the TSA’s biggest event for the spring semester, and there is no attendance fee.

Alternative Press presents Armor for Sleep with special guests Boys Night Out, Chiodos, and Action Reaction at Saratoga Winners at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $13 in advance or $15 at the door.

UPAC Comedy hosts Ty Barnett in the McNeil Room from 8-10 pm. Barnett has opened for Damon Wayans and Lewis Black, and he has been seen in K-Swiss commercials and on Comedy Central. This is a free event.

Sunday

RPI Fencing honors Coach Frank Collins with a team tournament held in the Armory. The foil event will be held at 9 am, epee at 11 am, and saber at 1 pm. Teams may be 3 or 4 persons, but each fencer may only participate in one event. The entry fee is $45 per team.

Wednesday

Harold Prince directs Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, playing at Proctor’s Theatre throughout the month of February. The show starts at 8 pm with tickets priced at $17.75, $37.75, and $57.75. For showtimes and prices, see http://www.proctors.org/.
