Five for Fighting’s new album American Town was amazing. His music is comparable to that of Dave Matthews, Ben Folds Five, the Beatles, and Elton John. In some of their songs, Five for Fighting also sounds like Pearl Jam and Pavement. Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik is one of the first rock musicians in a long time to come out with his own unique style and talent.
Ondrasik does the instrumentation and all of the singing. He is a singer, guitarist, satirist, and commentator.
This CD has a light sound and is great to listen to no matter what mood you are in. There are some great acoustic guitar and piano parts throughout the album.
These instruments are played with great feeling and set the mood for each song.
My favorite piano piece is in the song "Jainy." This song is about a lonely girl who looks to the stars for hope. Of course, you may know the hit song from this album, "Easy Tonight." This is a happy song that Ondrasik wrote about his wife and baby.
Another great song on the album is "Superman," which comforts us by saying that even heros have troubles and fears. "Something About You" is a nice song about losing a love with a message that says that you can always hold onto them in your heart. "Love Song" is a song about divorce viewed through the eyes of a child.
I think many different types of people will be able to relate to the themes of the songs on this album and will enjoy listening to it. If you are in the mood for some refreshing music, I suggest picking up America Town by Five for Fighting.
