Rensselaer in Brief
Citizenship supported
The Office of the First-Year Experience has created a new global citizenship program for students that will focus on issues of diversity and cultural awareness, called "Preparing the Global Citizen."

A three-year, $150,000 grant from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation is providing funding for the program.

"Preparing the Global Citizen" plans to establish a mini-grant system for faculty and staff to support cultural awareness outside the classroom and for improving the first-year experience.

Construction discussed
The City of Troy is holding a public information meeting tonight at 7 pm at St. Francis DeSalle church meeting room to discuss a plan by New York State to rebuild Congress Street from 11th Street to Pawling Avenue during the summer of 2002.

A discussion on traffic and parking issues in the neighborhood between Congress Street and College Avenue will follow the meeting at 8 pm.

A search committee for candidates to fill the position has already been established.

Lester Gerardt, associate dean of engineering, was named chair of the committee, which includes faculty and staff from both the Hartford and Troy campuses.

Isaacson Miller, a Boston executive search committee, will provide assistance to the search committee.

Fund benefited
Rensselaer is holding a pasta dinner tonight from 5:50-7:30 pm in the McNeil Room of the Rensselaer Union for the New York City Fire Department Widows and Orphans Fund.

Spaghetti and meatballs, bread, salad, and dessert will be served at the dinner.

The cost to attend is $10 per person and $5 for RPI students. No prior registration is required.
