Suspects charged in off-campus mugging

Last week, the Troy Police Department made arrests on two men charged with robbing five RPI students at knife-point on November 1 and November 2. Travis Mears, a 17-year-old from Watervliet, was charged with two counts of robberies in the first degree, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. The second perpetrator, 19-year-old Christopher Morris, was charged with three counts of first degree robbery, one charge of assault, and one charge of attempted assault.

Flu shots given

The Gallager Health Center will be offering flu shots to students, faculty, and staff on Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm in the DCC Great Hall.

This is the last opportunity to receive a flu shot this year from the health center. The shots are free for students and are $10 for faculty and staff.

Reception held
A reception to honor RPI faculty achievements will be held on Thursday at 4 pm in DCC 308. Peter Swartz ‘68, chairman of the Global Business Network, will speak on “The Next Scientific Revolution.” Students are encouraged to attend the reception.

Staff member dies
Eileen Sutherland, 66, former associate director of the Office of Contracts and Grants, died last Thursday of cancer.

She was an employee of Rensselaer from 1976 to 1997.

Business and Professional Women USA’s Albany Chapter and was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Sutherland held a bachelor’s degree in accounting from SUNY Albany and was a resident of Albany.

The funeral was held yesterday at the Daniel Kennan Funeral Home.

Power lost
A loss of power in several campus buildings Tuesday morning was linked to a power failure in Academy Hall.

At approximately 9 am Public Safety responded along with four Troy Fire Department fire trucks and power was restored.
