Global chef visits RPI
As part of its Global Chef exchange program, Hospitality Services will be bringing Patrick Cox from Heerlen, the Netherlands, to the Rensselaer Union this Wednesday evening. His tour of the U.S. began at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and will proceed to the University of Vermont, RPI, and the College of New Jersey.
Chef Cox will be at RPI October 19-21. As part of his cooking exhibitions around campus, he will be doing a food preparation demonstration in the Union on October 19, a full meal at the Commons on October 20, and will be preparing a community lunch at Joseph’s House, a homeless shelter in downtown Troy, on October 21.
His experience in the field is extensive, with nine years at Sodexho and 17 years as a culinary instructor and executive chef. While at RPI, he will not only be preparing Dutch native cuisine, but will be doing exhibitionary cooking for faculty and students.
RPI awarded NIH grant
RPI was recently awarded a two-year, $1 million planning grant from the National Institutes of Health for research into chemoinformatics. Chemoinformatics involves the use of computers and other information processing techniques applied to a range of problems in the field of chemistry.
The realization of this research will take place in an interdisciplinary team specializing in chemistry, computer science, biology, decision sciences, mathematical sciences, and physics. One major expected benefit of the research is identifying technologies that can predict chemical compound behavior reliably. Appointees confirmed
At the Student Senate’s meeting last Thursday, the body confirmed a few student government appointments. Jeffrey Teixeira ’09 was confirmed by the Senate in a unanimous vote to be the Class of 2009 Representative term to the Union’s Executive Board for the 2005-2006 term. The E-Board handles how money will be distributed among the clubs and other financial initiatives dealing with the Union.
In addition to that, Emilio Perez ’07 was appointed as the Judicial Board Chairman in a unanimous vote effective in January of 2006. Effective immediately for Perez, however, were the appointments of Chief Judicial Advisor, with a vote of 18-0-1 and Judicial Board Vice Chair with a vote of 19-0-1. The J-Board adjudicates cases brought or appealed by students.
