Women’s soccer saw mixed over the weekend, shutting out State University of New York New Paltz in a 3-0 victory on Friday. But on Sunday, first ranked Williams College overturned the Engineers 1-0.
Freshman Emily Kaplan scored the first goal for the Engineers, stopping a goal kick and capitalizing on the opportunity. Kaplan currently leads the team in goals.
A short time into the second half, freshman Jeanine Moreau took a left-footed shot toward the goal. Hawks goalie Angela Ratka tipped the ball, but was not able to control the ball before it slipped into the goal.
The third goal of the game came in the 63rd minute, thanks to junior Bethany Hanson.
Sunday was a tough game for the Engineers, who went up against nationally ranked Williams College. While the Ephs ran play after play, the Engineer’s defense held strong.
It took a penalty kick in the 57th minute of play to end the stalemate. RPI was unable to counterattack, ending the game 1-0.
The Engineers are back in action on September 21 away at Hartwick College, and then against the Valiants on September 24 at Manhattanville College.
