ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, THE RPI MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM TOOK on the Bard College Raptors at ECAV Arena. Right out of the gate, RPI proved it was the better team, rattling off a 10-0 run to start the game. Throughout the first half, the Engineers’ speed and length allowed them to pressure Bard’s ball-handlers into difficult situations, causing 12 turnovers and numerous sloppy passes. After ten minutes, sophomore Will Lewis’s 3-pointer gave RPI a commanding 30-10 lead. Later, junior Jarrett Boeglin made 2 foul shots which gave the Engineers their largest lead of the half, 44-15. The first half wound down with the home team leading by 24 points. In the second half, several comeback attempts by the Raptors proved futile as the Engineers had another great night shooting the ball. The final score of the game was RPI 103, Bard 84. With the win, men’s basketball moves to 6-7 in the Liberty League conference, while Bard falls to 0-11. Each team had players step up and play well. For Bard, it was senior point guard Lamar Powell, who capped off a 40-point night with a last second 3-pointer. For the entirety of the game, Powell led Bard’s offensive charge, needling his way through the RPI trap. In addition to his 40 points, Powell also had three rebounds, two assists, and one steal. For RPI, sophomore Jesus Cardenas scored thirteen points and added 4 assists while sophomore Tyler Gendron and junior Josh Dugas each turned in double-digit scoring performances of their own. To go along with these high scorers, senior Nick Keefe and sophomore Chase Almond each added a team-leading five rebounds to the stat sheet. The Engineers will face Rochester Insitute of Technology at home on Friday, February 14 in the ECAV Arena, followed by a game at Union College in Schnectady on Saturday, February 15.
