Larceny: Received report from VCC that they got a tip involving a computer that was reported stolen. Computer was being used in the Rensselaer Union first floor. Non-student logged on as student in Mothers. Troy Police arrested suspect. Suspect charged with criminal possession of stolen property IV.
Friday, October 25
• Hall Hall
Fire Alarm: According to Res Life office, alarm was caused by accidental tripping by student who was decorating for Halloween. System reset back on line as per TFD.
• Stacwyck
Fire Alarm: Fire alarm activation received. Heat in room tripped alarm system. Heat turned down and system reset as per TFD.
• 15th Street
Larceny: Caller reported that when she left apartment for a few minutes, her door was left unlocked. Someone entered her apartment and took her laptop. Caller was advised to contact TPD. Officer on site. DOSO notified. The IT department was notified to cross reference RIN numbers to serial numbers for the laptop. TPD took report and will forward a copy pending supervisory approval.
Saturday, October 26
• Freshman Hill
Intoxication: Caller reported someone was vomiting between Crockett and Bray Hall. DPS responded. Upon arrival, DPS found two students leaning against Crockett Hall. One of the students was vomiting. Rensselaer County was notified. RPI Ambulance responded. Student was transported to Samaritan Hospital. Incident report completed for underage consumption of alcohol. Medical report also completed.
• Moe’s Southwest Grill
Fire Alarm: Moe’s personnel called, stated that their fire alarm is going off. Alarm was not received at Public Safety. TFD and Sgt. En-route. On-call Phys. Plant paged. Fire Life Safety will respond. Cause is unknown. Panel reset per TFD.
• Quadrangle Dorms
Fire Alarm: Fire alarm activation received. Hunt indicated on panel. Officers and TFD responded. Cooking smoke in kitchen area caused alarm. Panel reset per TFD.
Sunday, October 27
• Blitman Residence Commons
Fire Alarm: Smoke detector activated in room. County notified. Alarm activation due to candle lit in room.
• Burdett Avenue Residence Hall
Injury: Caller states that he ate dinner at BARH Dining Hall and got something stuck in his throat. He was not choking; however, there was an object stuck. RPI Ambulance was dispatched and caller was transported to Samaritan Hospital.
•Rensselaer Union
Strange Odor: Caller stated that there was a strong odor of gas near the third floor elevators. Student was advised to activate a pull station. Officers and TFD en-route. Area checked and odor was unfounded. Panel reset per TFD. National Grid en-route to check area. Fire report on file.
Monday, October 28

Fire Alarm: Fire alarm activation received. Sgt. and TFD dispatched. Cause was pull station on first floor. Panel reset. Fire report on file. Incident report on
file for “falsely reporting an incident”.
Fire Alarm: Fire alarm activation received for Williams. DPS and TFD responded. Cooking smoke in room was the cause. Panel reset per TFD.
Fire Alarm: Fire alarm activation.Room was indicated on the panel. Unknown cause for alarm. Furnace filter was discovered sucked into the furnace which could have been the cause. Phys. Plant paged and contacted Fire Life Safety personnel to fix the smoke detector. Panel reset by TFD. Fire Life Safety reported to DPS.
