PSS: weathering the storm

WINTER STORM NEMO STRUCK the northeastern U.S. late Friday evening, February 8, 2013. RPI Alert sent out an e-mail earlier in the day to notify all students, faculty, and staff of class cancellations for those that started at 4 pm or later to ensure safety due to the “heavy snow and high winds from the advancing storm.” Following that alert, President Shirley Ann Jackson sent out an inclement weather bulleting notifying everyone of the liberal leave policy as well as the closure of the Hartford campus at 2 pm. Although there was no campus closure along with the class cancellations at the Troy campus, the Red Hawk shuttle ran only until 7 pm, and the Folsom Library closed early at 6 pm. Despite the impending forecast of 6–18 inches of snow, the women’s ice hockey game against Clarkson University was played as usual at 7 pm at the Houston Field House and the Rensselaer Union and other recreational facilities remained open.
