PSS: splish-splash

STUDENT-ATHLETES FROM RPI AND THE MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY COMPETE in the 3000-meter steeplechase in the Engineers’ Cup held at Harkness Field this weekend. RPI men’s track and field finished first at the meet, while the women’s team placed third. Sophomore Zac Bórelli, who was named the Liberty League Field Performer of the Week, earned victories in both the discus throw (41.27 meters) and the shot put (14.30 meters). Senior Austin Drexler won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.43 seconds, and placed second in the 200-meter event. Freshman Dylan Landry won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.37 seconds, while juniors David Kastner and Matt Nafie won the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Senior Christopher Chang won the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters, and classmate Sage D’Aprile took top honors in the javelin throw with a distance of 53.11 meters. Both of RPI’s relay teams also finished in first place. The 4x100-meter team consisting of senior Hermanus Van Der Schijff, junior Matt Strait, sophomore Stephen Silber, and Drexler posted a time of 43.37. The 4x400-meter team of junior John Scanlon, sophomore Alex Delaney, Nafie, and Landry won with a time of 3:25.28. For the women, sophomore Lydia Frangos won the hammer throw with a distance of 46.15 meters, while sophomore Cheryl Tran finished second in the high jump. Both junior Grace Tilton and senior Ariel Mingrone finished third in their respective events—the 1500-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase. Both teams will compete at the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., beginning at 10 am.
