RPI United, along with the men’s hockey team and the United States Marine Corps Reserve, will be hosting a toy drive for needy children in the Capital District area. Dubbed the RPI United Toys for Tots Holiday Drive, members of the school spirit group will be manning a table at the December 5 men’s hockey game against Colgate University.
Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the event to be distributed to deserving children in the region. Cash or check donations will also be accepted in lieu of actual toys. Those that contribute to the cause will be entered into a raffle for an autographed Mike Bergin Black Friday jersey.
In an action-packed day of fan involvement, the game also marks the annual Skate with the Engineers, where spectators are encouraged to strap on a pair of ice skates following the contest and chat up their favorite players during a free open-skate period. This night also features the Teddy Bear Toss.
Toys for Tots is a campaign started by the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947 that aims to provide a message of hope to underprivileged children throughout the country. In over 62 years of service, Toys for Tots has distributed over 400 million toys to more than 188 million children in the United States.
