Members of the women’s crew team completed their fall racing season against some of the best rowers in the world. Coming off their sixth place finish at the World Rowing Championships, the women’s 8+ from Canada traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY to compete in the Head of the Fish Regatta.

“This race gave us three opportunities: to race against the best competition in the world, to compete head-to-head with the defending Division III National Champions [Williams College], and to see where we stand in the UCAA before we go inside for our winter training,” said Coach Todd Rutecki.

The Red Hawks women finished 26 seconds behind Williams College and bested UCAA opponents Skidmore, Union, Rochester, and Clarkson. “The entire team has moved forward dramatically; the women’s program especially,” Rutecki continued. “The nature of the game has changed as a result of the first NCAA Rowing Championship held last spring. I think that it’s fair to say that we’ve got the athlete base to compete on that level.”

Men’s and women’s crew recruits from the student body. The next informational meeting for prospects with no rowing experience will be held in early February. Practices for new rowers begin in mid-February and will be held daily beginning at 5:30 pm. Interested athletes should e-mail info@rpicrew.com for additional information.
