The women’s field hockey team found a wall in their path to victory this weekend—the Vassar Brewers. Not that the Red Hawks didn’t put up a fight—they only lost 3-2
The Red Hawks opened up the scoring 8:28 into the game as Laurie Young made an unassisted goal. Nineteen minutes later Beth Pierson scored for the Brewers assisted by Leah Spigelman, tying up the game.
The Brewers were on a roll for the beginning of the second half, with Katherine Ross scoring two goals, one unassisted 12 minutes in, and a second on an assist by Pierson four minutes later, putting the game at 1-3. RPI’s Colleen Bonner made a late effort on the goal at 26 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to shore up the game.
In the goal, Cathy Hotchkiss recorded seven saves for the Red Hawks to the Brewers’ 10 made by Tara Trifon.
The game put the Red Hawks at 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the UCAA. They will play again on Saturday in the UCAA tournament versus top-seeded, nationally ranked Skidmore.
