Letter to the Editor
RPI does not need union

To the Editor:

Regarding a recent letter, Sheila, you are a wonderful person who unfortunately has let your mind be poisoned by the constant barrage of lies, deceit, and BS by the union officials. Your speech writers—SEIU—still haven’t gotten it right either.

They mentioned in your article the $.08 an hour raises. Why didn’t they tell the truth and not lies? The person, not a majority, only got that raise because they had not long ago started at RPI. A prime example of lies, deceit, and BS.

The union also mentioned in your article about health and other benefits. In their fantasy world, it would be nice to have everything paid for. Well, bam, wake up! This is the real world and the cost of health benefits is rising on a daily basis. On the local scene, there are well-known companies in the area that don’t pay sick time and pay a lot more for their benefits than we do. I think that RPI has done a wonderful job of keeping that cost down. There are also companies that don’t have recognition for perfect attendance, has numerous picnics to recognize employees’ hard work. Also, there are a lot of local companies that don’t have some of the benefits that are unique to RPI.

The union goes on to say that an overwhelming number of employees signed union cards. Well, I hate to burst your fantasy balloon, but a vast number of employees signed cards—but do not want a union—because they were sick and tired of the daily harassment they received in the morning and afternoon by the “picnic table people” at the key room.

This is addressed to some of my fellow custodians, who are supporters of the union, who were working the day, afternoon, or evening shifts, who were removed from their buildings for not doing their jobs. In the words of your fearless leader, Mr. Drucker, it would be easier to fire employees that weren’t doing their jobs if a union got voted in here. So I think that the above-mentioned employees better back track and hope a union doesn’t get voted in here. I personally think that RPI is way too tolerant.

If any more of you former union supporters wanted to talk to me about anything in this article, please by all means come and talk to me.
