Students: Be heard! The 20 days and 20 nights of student feedback campaign is in full swing, and it has already begun to draw the critical information that will help guide the current Senate in the second half of our term, as well as our successors. Rather than ramble about my brunch, here are some of the issues students have raised thus far:
• Open skating in the Field House
• The faucets in the Union bathrooms and other Union building issues
• Cary Hall
• Opening the Union 24 hours a day Sunday through Thursday
• Better lighting on the northeast corner of the Union
• Lack of proper software for every major on current laptops
• Lack of Latino studies program or courses / cultural center
• The clock on the north side of the Union
• More student feedback in major decisions
• Tuition pricing concerns
• Parking
• Repairing vending machines
• DOSO move
• Swipe card "RAD-like" system for vending machines, washers, and dryers
• Sexual orientation issues
• Perceived anti-greek sentiment
• Need for uniformity and consolidation of judicial system
• Request for detailed breakdown of Institute budget
• Textbooks under-ordered or ordered late for class
• Late-evening final exams
• Classroom temperature, climate issues
These are just a few of the issues and there are many more. We will compile the top issues and print them in The Poly. And of course we will go into action! In fact, we are already making progress on many of the issues, but we still need your help.
If your club, organization, team, fraternity, or sorority would like a senator or myself to stop by at a meeting or event to gather student feedback, please e-mail either me at gm@rpi.edu or Senate-listens@rpi.edu to set up a time. You can always send your feedback directly, as well.
Finally, today from 2-4 pm in the Greene Building second floor gallery, the post-September 11 STS committee will be hosting a forum on civil liberties. The forum promises to be extremely insightful and a great opportunity to discuss the issues surrounding our new day and time.
Senate hours are every Monday-Thursday from 8-9 pm in the west lobby of the Union. Good night.
