Independent Council IC takes up parking issue banner
Posted 10-17-2001 at 2:29PM
Jacob D. Hunt Independent Council President Just recently the Independent Council has received word that one of its current projects—student parking on campus—may become more pressing. A report has been brought to the attention of the Council, originating in a Board of Trustees Physical Facilities committee meeting that took place on September 21, that parking may become more limited. The construction of the new biotechnology facility adjacent to the CII will effectively eliminate approximately 480 parking spaces which are currently located on the future construction site. The construction is slated to begin next semester. It is unclear to the council whether the new parking garage, which will be built as part of the present campus expansion, will replace these spaces on time (it will provide about 500 spaces). Because of the severity and immediacy of this potential problem, I urge all students who will be affected to write the IC (ic@union.rpi.edu) and voice your concerns or opinions. Also, if any administration staff would like to volunteer information, your input is more than welcome. The IC will report any recent findings as soon as possible.
In lighter news, however, the Independent Council has begun the survey process for this semester. At the last two meetings, envelopes were filled with surveys and potential classes to survey were placed on a list, ready for review by the council. It is our hope to have the survey distributed by the end of October, allowing professors time to incorporate the surveys into their class schedule. Because the IC survey has intentionally been kept short, the incorporation time is minimal and we hope that all professors asked will gladly pass out our survey when it comes time to do so.
Finally, the IC still needs members from the following classes: 2002, 2004, and graduate students. The Council meets on Thursday nights for one hour, starting at 9 pm in the Student Government Suite of the Union. | |
