Undergraduate Council Fall semester full of excitement
Posted 10-03-2001 at 1:49PM
Pashmina Lalchandani Undergraduate Council President It has been a little over a month since the start of the semester and I must say it has definitely been an eventful one. Regardless of our stressful schedule and work load, I hope many of you have found the time to explore the wonderful ways you can get involved with the RPI community. I have been to a plethora of meetings, activities, and social events that have filled up my nights and weekends. Some of you may have gone to the many greek Rush events, or are starting to connect with certain clubs and organizations. Perhaps you have gone to one or more of the many movies, dances, sports events, comedy nights, or community service events all of which have happened in one month! There are many more activities and changes coming up in the future; some of which will be in this month, while others we shall see over the next few years.
Now is the perfect time to get your resume ready since NSBE and SHPE are working hard at organizing the annual Career Fair which will be on October 12 and October 13 in the Armory from 10 am to 4 pm. I encourage all of you to attend and make an impression on all the recruiters! There is also a Media Arts Career Festival on October 26 at the Heffner Alumni House which should be exciting since this is the first time the Institute is having such an event!
A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the town meeting in the DCC. I was a little disappointed by the lack of students at the meeting, but I’m hoping many of you watched it live on TV or on the web. I am very excited about the new plans for the Electronic Media and Performing Arts Center and the Biotechnology Center. Likewise, I can’t wait to see them when they are finished.
I also had the honor of meeting with the Board of Trustees at the Academic Affairs Committee’s meeting last week. I spoke to them about the UC’s plans and goals for the year and learned a lot about the state of our Institute. The UC is running smoothly, and although we are waiting for the freshman reps to get on board, we have already begun working on our bylaws, The Handbook, and the four-year plan for class councils. We are still looking for a webmaster, so contact me if you are interested! If there are any issues you would like to see the UC take up, please let me know by sending me an email at uc@rpi.edu. Have a great long weekend! | |
