Troy Housing Authority has applied to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for a HOPE VI grant to be put towards the revitalization of the 50-year-old Taylor Apartments and the construction of additional housing complexes.

"The revitalization plan will not only benefit the residents of the Taylor Apartments but the City of Troy as a whole. ... Greatness in a university is inextricably linked to the vitality of a region in which it is situated," said Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson.

In their HOPE VI application, THA proposes replacing 215 of the public housing units in the Taylor Apartments and building 190 new housing units at the site of the closed Ahern Apartments and in other surrounding neighborhoods of Troy’s downtown area. The units selected are the ones most affected by bridges, ramps, and tunnels running through the development.

Additionally, THA aims to provide employment training, educational assistance, and employment support services to residents of the apartment complexes.

THA’s efforts are focused on the creation of mixed-income communities, the promotion of home ownership, major neighborhood revitalization, and building rehabilitation.

Support for Troy’s revitalization is a part of RPI’s efforts in the Neighborhood Renewal Initiatives project.

"The support that RPI has offered within our HOPE VI application and in general over the years is truly appreciated. RPI is an integral part of the Troy community, and we believe that their involvement, both last year and this year, helped to strengthen our application," said Mario.
