RPI’s runners continue to shine, with the women’s squad earning a sixth-place finish out of the 32 schools competing at the Third Annual New York University Cross Country Invitational. The men’s team placed 15th in a field of 37 teams.

The women beat 26 opposing squads, finishing behind meet winner Moravian, College of New Jersey, Geneseo, Bowdoin, and Ithaca. Moravian also had the top runner overall, Heidi Wolfsberger, who finished with a time of 18:19.

Senior Katie Roden once again led the women with a time of 19:34 on the five-kilometer Van Cortland Park course in the Bronx; she finished in 17th place overall. Kate Adams followed her in 28th place, completing the race in 19:51. Allyson Soja, Rebecca Rosenberg-Beran, and Cara O’Toole rounded out RPI’s top five with times of 20:10, 20:31, and 21:24 respectively.

On the men’s side, Ithaca’s Mike Styczynski finished first overall, running the longer eight-kilometer course in 26:12.

The team captains led the way for the Engineers, with junior Duane Crammond leading all RPI runners at 27:38, good for 34th place overall. Senior Justin Jablonowski was next; he finished in 48th place with a time of 28:01. Mark Jensenius, Bob Baniak, and Ryan Hevner were the other scorers for the Engineers, with respective times of 29:01, 29:30, and 29:43.

The next meet for the Engineers is the UCAA Championships, hosted by Rensselaer at Saratoga Spa State Park on Saturday at 1 pm.
